Quick answer
Most failed downloads come from three things: the video isn't public, the link points to a profile or post instead of the video itself, or the video was deleted. Open the video on its own, copy the link again from the Share button and retry. If the file downloads but won't play, choose a lower quality such as 540p.
"This video is private or the platform is asking for login"
The platform only shows this video to logged-in users: a private account, a closed group, a Story, a members-only or age-restricted video. DownloadReel only works with public videos. Check by opening the link in a private browser window; if you can't watch it there, it can't be downloaded.
"This link is not a video link"
You copied the link of a profile, a page or a search instead of a single video. Open the video itself, tap Share → Copy link and paste that link.
"Video not found"
The video was deleted, made private, or the link is incomplete. Copy the link again in full.
"This video is too large to download here"
Very long videos in high quality exceed the size limit. Choose a lower quality or MP3.
"This video is still being prepared"
Someone else is downloading the same video at the same moment. Wait a minute and press Download again; the file will be ready instantly.
The file downloads but won't play
Some TikTok HD files use HEVC, which older phones and Windows' player can't open. Download the 540p option instead; it uses H.264 and plays everywhere.
I can't find the file on my iPhone
Safari saves downloads to the Files app. Open Files → Downloads, then tap the video and Share → Save Video to move it into Photos.
